A brief review about the history of this charming place in the city of Málaga is presented below.
El Balneario de los Baños del Carmen is a unique and very characteristic place in Málaga. Located at the east of the city, next to the typical beaches of Pedregalejo, is one of the enclaves that is worth visiting.
On July 16th, 1918, los Baños del Carmen opened its doors as a spa resort, constituting a very innovative project, in contrast to other spa resorts of the time, this one was in the sea, with exposure to the sun and it permitted the bath of men and women together, just like in other cities such as Santander or San Sebastián.
It had such a complete success that, in 1920, a jetty, a film screen, a restaurant and a tennis court, where the first tennis match in Malaga took place, were built within the resort spa. Only two years after that, in 1922, the first football pitch in Malaga (that was operational until 1941) and a dancing floor of more than 2000 m2, where many concerts and shows were organised, were also built here, making summer nights in Los Baños del Carmen very famous and attractive.
Nowadays, Los Baños del Carmen belongs to a semi-wild area with a Plan for a littoral regeneration and a rehabilitation of the ancient resort spa. At the same time and after decades of decline, the restaurant “El Balneario” marked as primordial objective to recover the ancient brightness to become a referent in the leisure next to the sea.
